MY WORK

I love working with fun, vibrant prints. I curate my fabrics in a coastal-theme collection. Just about all of my bags are made with Spoonflower fabric designed by independent textile artists from all over the world. Spoonflower is a community where you get to know the designer behind the fabric.

Sewing is more than just making bags. It’s therapy for me. It helps me cope with past experiences. It relaxes me and teaches me to focus. I’m always learning something new from it. It’s a creative outlet where I can express myself and create something beautiful.

I like to challenge myself with new bag patterns. I’ve created shoulder bags, mini backpacks, belt bags, and so much more. My best-seller is my travel bag, which can be used to store craft projects to beach items.

Currently, I have released my first sewing pattern and tutorial on how to make a notebook pouch. And I’m working on my next sewing pattern to sell.

MY STORY

My name is Misty Duke, and I have roots in Northern Alabama. I’m the first in my family to receive a college degree, holding a Bachelor of Arts and certifications in computer programming. Shortly after graduating, I landed my first job in Miami, Florida. I lived and worked in the corporate world as a Web Programmer for 12 years all over South Florida.

I started to feel burned out, and then I met my husband in West Palm Beach. He was a boat captain of a yacht that traveled seasonally to Martha’s Vineyard. I knew it was time to quit the fast-paced corporate life, so I followed him to Martha’s Vineyard in 2018.

It was a breath of fresh air. The artist community inspired me, and I began sewing makeup bags. I’ve been attending the summer markets since 2019. The name Sweet Magnolia Designs is an homage to my Alabama roots.

I have a daughter now who starts Kindergarten this Fall. We still visit the Sunshine State during the holidays as my husband’s family is there, but we call Martha’s Vineyard home.
